Easy ways to be kinder to the planet, in Lagos:

  • Buy local, organic produce with as little packaging at possible. The easiest way to do this is shopping at Vivo Mercado, Wednesday market.

  • Shop second hand. Find treasures, spend pennies and avoid fast-fashion landfill & exploitation. You can find great stuff at curated vintage stores inc Luah Vintage, The Urban Jungle and Arco Preloved for children’s clothes. There are also lots of charity shops to do this including Nandi, Cardela Carlota, Mustard Seed foundation.

  • Or buy from these awesome sustainable local brands: SUL Swimwear, bikins made from 90% recycled ocean plastic. Fünve, very cool vegan leather slides from Sagres.

  • Eat less, or no meat. Easy (and delicious) to do this at Estúdio Vegetariano, O Ninho Family bar and more great options here.

  • Drive less. If you can walk, or ride, its better for you, and the planet.

  • Getting take away? Bring your own mug or Tupperware container. Its actually cool to walk down the street with your coffee in a mug ;).

  • Support local producers such as Mania Beer, Deus Sista Kombucha, Clifftop Coffee, Alma Gin. (Less transport = Less CO2).

  • Look after the environment - don’t litter, and if you see some rubbish on the beach, pick it up. You might save a dolphin! 🐬

  • Wear eco, natural sunscreens & zinc that aren’t harmful to marine life. JahShaka shop stocks a selection.

  • Use as your default search engine to plant trees everytime you search the internet, for free! Launching a browser this earth day!!!
